ABOUT ME
Let's just get it out of the way - I AM A FLORIDA MAN. But, I am not the kind of Florida Man who wrestles alligators or accosts a stuffed animal in a Walmart because I am high on bath salts. Nope, my part of the state is pretty normal and boasts some of the best beaches in the world. If that's not enough, the area also has everything somebody dabbling in photography would want - sunshine galore, wooded expanses filled with long leaf pine trees, and random vistas that become their own life force when the sun sets over them.
Oh, and the occasional black bear or alligator may show up. Just keep your distance, and you'll be fine. I have always been a "photographer" - meaning, "...somebody who takes pictures." My family photo bucket hosted by our friends at Google boasts pictures I have taken going all the way back to the days of Fotomats and clunky cameras with flash cubes. I view photography as something to capture a unique moment in time that changes the second the shutter closes...that's actually why I named this site Panta Rhei. This landscape photography thing is a natural evolution to my passion of preserving moments and memories. I will never claim to be or make it to the level of a Ben Thouard or Michael Kenna, but will keep practicing to get there - with color. Speaking of color... I FIDDLE WITH MY PHOTOS IN LIGHTROOM. There, we got that out of the way. Yes, I have a fancy-ish mirroless camera with a collection of interchangeable lenses and a whole host of confusing settings on it, but that only takes my shots so far with composition and impact. I leverage Lightroom for minor perspective corrections and color enhancements to match the emotional connection I had with the scene when it was taken. I aim to not overdo it - something I call "Kinkade-ing it"...i.e. over saturating things. The colors sometimes may be more vivid, but that's how my brain remembers the moment. |
